Information on Daegu and the Surrounding Area

  • Daegu Compass
    • Daegu Compass was launched in 2011 and is a useful bilingual (English and Korean) magazine that provides interesting articles on life in Daegu and Korea, social events, as well as maps of popular foreigner hangouts around Daegu.
  • Galbi Jim
    • Galbi Jim is a blog/wiki forum website which includes a lot of information about general resource issues in both Daegu and Korea as a whole. Also includes forums on many topics that you can join and contribute to.
  • Daegu City Website
    • The City of Daegu website can offer you many ideas on things to do around Daegu, as well as information on all parts of the city.
  • Dave’s ESL
    • Job listings, discussion forum, part idea guide, where you can find information on events occurring in Korea, FAQs, and even classified listings for used items.
  • Korean Tourism Organization
    • Official site of the Korean Tourism Organization, a great website for planning trips and information for all around Korea.

  • LingQ
    • An excellent resource that has free audio and written content. Also allows for tracking of stats and has a great language learning app as well that compliments the website.
  • LiveMocha
    • Helps you get started learning Korean before you arrive, or even after you have been here for awhile. Beginner to Advanced Lessons
  • Koreanclass101
    • A great online resource for learning Korean. They have full lessons on this site, which you can access for free.
  • Talk to me in Korean
    • Also a great online resource for learning Korean. This a great resource for free Korean content with both the mp3 track and transcript. Great and free for learners of all levels.
  • YMCA Daegu
    • Contact EJ, at YMCA in downtown Daegu. At the YMCA, they run Korean language classes in 3 month semesters, every Saturday morning. Also, they can arrange for a private tutor for you to study Korean.

Korean Travel and Tourism

  • Korean Tour Guide
    • The official tourism website of Korea, with many links to events occurring around the country.
  • Happytour
    • Manchon Emart (2nd Floor)- ask to speak with Danny, he sets up many foreigners’ vacations, including getting visas. Email: happytour (at) hanafos (dot) com- address it to Danny.
  • Kangsan Travel
    • Located near Camp Walker, can arrange air flight, tour packages, rail passes, as well as all ferry travel to Japan. English speaking.
  • Adventure Korea
    • Tours and trips that are geared towards foreigners, including DMZ tours, bungee jumping and river rafting, and temple stays. In English.
  • Korail
    • Lists of train schedules and prices, including the KTX, in English.
  • Korean Express Buses
    • Lists of express bus schedules and prices for travel all around Korea, in English.
  • Why Pay More
    • A Korean website with listings of low priced air tickets around the world. Korean only.

Online Shopping

G Market – In English

This site has a wide variety of products with the Korean search engine.  It has nearly all of the same products listed with the English search engine.  You can find anything from socks to plane tickets here. Check it out here: G Market

Auction.co.kr –In Korean

This is the largest online shopping site in Korea and is comparable to Ebay.  You can type into the search engine in English but the product descriptions are in Korean.  The prices are clearly listed  and as long as you’re not looking for anything too complicated, you can make some purchases here. Interpark – In Korean

Interpark has a little bit more variety than Gmarket but not as much as Auction.  As with Auction, you can search in English here and get Korean product descriptions.  If you can read Korean, you should be okay here with a dictionary.  You can get by here with the assistance of a translation site too.
