The Kyungpook University Area
The Kyungpook University Area is a lively place filled with students, foreigners, and people just looking to have some inexpensive fun.
As with most university districts in Korea, the area around the main gate of Kyungpook University Area (locally referred to as “Kyungdae”) is packed with bars, nightclubs, restaurants, PC rooms, and DVD rooms. University nightlife districts are known for their young atmosphere, but also for having inexpensive restaurants that cater to the budgets of students. So a good night can be had and for relatively cheap, when compared to other nightlife districts.
How To Get There
The area is best reached by taxi from either Dongdaegu Station or Keungogae Station (on the Red Line Subway), both of which are about a 5 minute drive from the area. Just tell a taxi driver to take you to “Kyeongdae Buk-mun” and he’ll take you to the north, main gate of the university, where across the street, you’ll see the neon glitter of the nightlife.

Popular Places
Sugar Joe’s
Sugar Joe’s is a popular hangout with foreigners and Koreans. They often have live music, as well as an “open mic” night once a week. To get to Sugar Joe’s, when you arrive at Kyungpook Area, cross to the neon light side of the street, turn left and walk approx. 2 minutes. Look on the buildings for the Sugar Joe’s sign. The bar is located on the 2nd floor.
Indian Restaurants
There are several Indian restaurants in this area, and they are all decent. Directly across the main intersection is Indo Bangangi, on the second floor of the building to the left of the crosswalk.
Maya, a Nepalese restaurant that is very popular with foreigners, is also in the area. To reach it, after the crosswalk, turn left. Turn right at the first street, which is only 1 minute away, and when the road forks into two directions, take the left fork. Maya is on this corner where the road forks, also on the second floor. Watch for the signs.
